Nigerian superstar, D’banj has won the 2015 MTV Evolution award.
The veteran singer clinched the award ahead of other African
legends such as 2face, Asa, Black Cofee,
Chameloen, Fally Ipupa, HHP. Samini and
Psquare.
The MAMA “Evolution” award honours established artistes who have
made an indelible mark on African and global music culture, taken African music
to new territories around the world, pushed the boundaries of creativity, and
shaped the soundscape of contemporary Africa.
D’banj dedicated his award to his erstwhile business partner and
producer, Don Jazzy, with
whom he began his journey as an entertainer, under the defunct Mo’Hits Records.
“I
wanna invite thank my father, even though we are not….God bless you Don Jazzy.
This award is dedicated to D’banj and Don Jazzy.” D'banj said in an emotion-laded acknowledgement
speech.
This award is a good addition to D’banj’s stellar career which has
seen him evolve at every turn as a singer, all-round entertainer, entrepreneur,
philanthropist, and role model.
The year 2015 also marks the 10th year
anniversary of D’banj as an entertainer, and will see him
release a 7-track visual EP.
Titled ‘I’m D’banj: An Epic Journey’,
the new mixtape from the Nigerian music veteran will contain seven songs, with
each possessing a video.
In January 2015, D'banj gave
a revealing interview about his career, controversy and evolution as an artiste
on 'The Truth' with Olisa Adibua. Watch the visual below.
