Ugezu J Ugezu
“Onye Igbo Agonari Ndigbo” meaning an “Igbo
person denying their Igbo identity” is Ugezu’s fifth album. His other albums
include, “Amuputa Onye Igbo”, “Egwu Igbo Egwu Ego”, “Kpaputa Ego Ka Osie Remix”
and “Guys in Holland.”
According to the
Chairman
Planning Committee of the festival, Okechukwu P. Oranika, the theme
of this great song rhymes with the theme of the festival, focusing on Igbo
language and culture all the way.
“This is a great song
folks, I can’t help nodding my head and tapping my feet listening to the great
melody of this song which is rendered in Igbo language,”Oranika said.
Also, known as Mr.
Surplus, Ugezu is one of the respected film directors with so many movies to
his credit. Despite directing English movies, Ugezu did not forget where he
comes from as he delved into new territory: Igbo language music.
Ugezu is an actor,
screenwriter, film maker and Highlife singer who holds the traditional titles
of Ayaka Enugwu-Ukwu and Okwulu Igbo Na Umunri. In a recent interview, Ugezu
said, he’s using his songs to promote the Igbo language which is speedily going
into extinction.”
